Starbucks Japan’s Pumpkin Spice Latte Has Arrived With a Fresh New Twist – And It’s Only for a Short Time!

For many Starbucks customers worldwide, the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) is an essential part of autumn, having been on the menu for over two decades. However, in Japan, PSL fans had to wait 15 years before it made its long-awaited return in 2021. Since then, the drink has become a seasonal staple once again, reappearing each fall.

Starbucks Japan Debuts Chilled Pumpkin Spice Latte

This year, Starbucks Japan has introduced an exciting new twist on the beloved drink: the first-ever chilled cup version of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Produced in collaboration with Suntory, this new option joins a line-up of chilled Starbucks drinks that have been on the market since 2005, offering fans a convenient way to enjoy the Starbucks experience outside its cafés.

The chilled Pumpkin Spice Latte is said to retain the signature creamy blend of pumpkin and spices that customers adore. The familiar flavours have been adapted for a ready-to-drink, chilled format, making it easier than ever to enjoy the autumnal favourite.

Designed for Autumn

The packaging of the chilled PSL is carefully designed to evoke the feeling of fall. The cup features a white base symbolizing milk, while vibrant illustrations of pumpkins and leaves in yellow, red, and brown signal the arrival of autumn. A bold brown brushstroke across the cup, accompanied by dot splashes, hints at the rich coffee and spice blend inside, balancing the sweetness of milk.

While the chilled Pumpkin Spice Latte can certainly be enjoyed on its own, Starbucks encourages pairing it with food for a more complete experience. According to Kenny Valenta, a Starbucks Product Developer based in the U.S., the ideal accompaniment is a clubhouse sandwich. The combination of chicken, mayonnaise, and whole wheat bread complements the creamy pumpkin and spice flavours, while highlighting the coffee notes in the drink.

Limited Availability

The 200-milliliter (6.8-ounce) chilled Pumpkin Spice Latte will be sold at convenience stores across Japan for a limited time starting September 10. With a suggested retail price of 219 yen (approximately US$1.50), this chilled version of the PSL is poised to be a hit among fans eager to try a new twist on their autumn favourite.
